A three-sided sofa bed with a raised armrest running around the back and sides, and an open front. The cover comes off for washing.
Dogs that sleep pressed against something — a wall, the edge of a couch, your leg — settle faster on a bed with sides. The open front matters too: an older dog never has to climb over a rim to get in.

These are external dimensions: the footprint on your floor. On a bed with sides, the usable sleeping area inside the armrest is smaller than the outside measurement suggests.
Measure your dog lying stretched out on their side, from the nose to the base of the tail — not the tip. Add 15cm if they curl up to sleep, 30cm if they sprawl.
We are specific about this because the industry is not. Different retailers measure from different points, and the gap between two conventions can be 20cm on a large dog. It is the most common reason a bed arrives too small.

Most dogs do not sleep in the middle of a bed. They pick an edge and press into it. The Ridge is built around that, without making an older dog climb.
The armrest
A raised armrest runs around the back and both sides. Dogs that settle against a wall, a couch edge or your leg get the same thing here — a fixed edge to push into — which is usually what shortens the circling before they lie down.

The open front
The fourth side is left open on purpose. A dog that has started thinking twice before getting into bed steps straight in at floor level instead of lifting a leg over a bolster. It is a small difference that decides whether an older dog uses the bed at all.

The base
The base is a supportive foam slab rather than loose polyester filling. Fill migrates to the edges under a dog's weight and leaves the middle flat against the floor. Foam holds its shape because there is nothing in it to migrate.

A listing that gives the outside of the bed is giving you a number that includes the bolster, which your dog cannot lie on.
We publish the external footprint in centimetres and tell you where the rim eats into it. We are measuring the internal area and will publish it as it is confirmed.
Plain language
Anyone can print the word on a bag of polyester fill.
We publish what each bed is made of rather than just the word. We don’t claim a bed treats anything — that’s a question for your vet.
What we don’t know yet
We are collecting verified figures with test reports from our manufacturers.
Until a figure is evidenced we will not print it. An unsupported number is worth less than an honest gap.

No, and this is the thing most people get caught by. The centimetres are the external footprint — the space it takes on your floor. The armrest runs around three edges, so the flat area your dog actually lies on is smaller. Size for the dog, not for the room.

Yes, it comes off completely rather than partially unzipping. Worth knowing because a bed usually outlasts its first cover, and a cover that only half comes off is the one that never gets washed properly.
