A wide bolster bed with a low overall height — 17cm from floor to top of rim across every size.

The low profile is what separates this from a standard bolster bed. Dogs with stiff hips, dogs recovering from surgery, and older dogs that have started hesitating before stepping into their bed all do better with less to climb over. It also sits neatly under furniture, which a taller bed will not.

Sizes

Small — 74 × 53 × 17cm
Medium — 91 × 69 × 17cm
Large — 110 × 82 × 17cm

External dimensions. The rim reduces the flat area your dog actually lies on.

Before you order

Measure your dog stretched out on their side, from the nose to the base of the tail, and add 15cm for a curler or 30cm for a sprawler.

Despite the names, the Small here is already a substantial bed at 74cm — closer to what other stores call a Medium. Go by the centimetres, not the label.

Our sleep-easy promise

17 cm, every size

The bolster bed for a dog that has started hesitating

A wide bolster bed that stays 17 cm from floor to top of rim across every size. Height is the whole point of it.

The height

17 cm, and it does not change

Small, Medium and Large are all 17 cm tall. The height does not grow with the width, which matters for the dog that needs the big size and the low step.

The entry

Less to climb over

Older dogs, stiff dogs and dogs recovering from surgery are the ones who tend to hesitate at a high edge. Entry height is the figure that decides whether a bed gets used, and we list it on every size.

The footprint

Fits under furniture

At 17 cm it slides under a bed frame or a sofa overhang, which a taller bolster will not. The widest size is 110 cm across, so it is a substantial bed that happens to be low.

Who this one suits, and who it doesn't

We would rather talk you out of the wrong bed than sell it to you. Both lists below are honest.

Take this one if

  • Older dogs, stiff dogs, and dogs recovering from surgery
  • Anyone who has watched their dog think about it before getting in
  • Spaces where the bed needs to fit under something

Look elsewhere if

  • Dogs that want deep sides to burrow into — that is The Burrow
  • Anyone shopping by size label. The Small here is 74 cm — go by the centimetres, not the label

Not sure which way you fall? Send us your dog's measurement and we will tell you which bed takes it — including when the answer is none of them.

How this bed compares

Every line below is something we do or don't do. None of it is a claim about what a bed does to your dog.

The Loft — Low-Profile Bolster Bed

  • Foam base that returns to shape
  • We say when a figure is unverified
  • Dog bed covers come off completely
  • Measuring method on this page
  • No claim a bed treats anything
A typical basic dog bed

A typical foam bed

  • Loose fill that migrates to the edges
  • Silence where the data should be
  • Cover often sewn in
  • A breed chart
  • Claims it fixes hips and joints

Our method

The size on the box is not the space your dog gets.

External footprint
Usable sleeping area
Entry height

A listing that gives the outside of the bed is giving you a number that includes the bolster, which your dog cannot lie on.

We publish the external footprint in centimetres and tell you where the rim eats into it. We are measuring the internal area and will publish it as it is confirmed.

Plain language

“Orthopaedic” is not a regulated word.

Supportive foam baseHolds its shape under weight. Returns when your dog gets up.
Loose polyester fillMigrates to the edges within weeks, leaving a hollow where the weight goes.

Anyone can print the word on a bag of polyester fill.

We publish what each bed is made of rather than just the word. We don’t claim a bed treats anything — that’s a question for your vet.

What we don’t know yet

Density is the number that predicts flattening.

Foam densityNot yet published

We are collecting verified figures with test reports from our manufacturers.

Until a figure is evidenced we will not print it. An unsupported number is worth less than an honest gap.

About this bed

Questions we get about the Loft

Specific to this one, not the range. If yours is not here, ask.

If it is not right, send it back

Thirty days from delivery to change your mind, on an unused bed in its packaging — you cover the return freight, which on a bed this bulky is usually $25 to $60.

If it turns up faulty, damaged or not what you ordered, that is different: we cover everything, freight included. Your consumer guarantees under Australian law apply whatever this or any other page says.

Why does entry height matter?

Because it is the figure that decides whether a stiff dog uses the bed or sleeps next to it. Height off the floor is the barrier, not the footprint — so we list it on every size. Ours is 17 cm.

Is the Small actually small?

No, and this catches people. At 74 cm it is larger than the label suggests. Go by the centimetres on this page, not by the label.

Will it fit under my bed?

Measure your clearance. At 17 cm it goes under most bed frames and sofa overhangs where a standard bolster bed will not.

Is this an orthopaedic bed?

It has a supportive foam base rather than loose fill, which is what we mean by the word. We do not claim it treats anything — a low entry means a stiff dog can get in, which is a matter of geometry, not medicine.
