A flat foam base with a bolstered rim running the whole way round, and a removable cover. Built in large sizes only.

This is the bed for a dog that sleeps with its head up on something. The rim gives them that without the enclosed feeling of a donut bed, and the base underneath stays level rather than collapsing under a shoulder.

Sizes

Large — 83 × 57 × 25cm
XL — 97 × 72 × 29.5cm
2XL — 120 × 90 × 30cm
3XL — 135 × 100 × 33cm

External dimensions. The rim takes up room on every edge, so the flat area your dog actually lies on is smaller than the outside measurement.

Before you order

Measure your dog lying stretched on their side, nose to the base of the tail. Add 15cm for a curler, 30cm for a sprawler.

Sizing matters more on a bolster bed than any other shape, because the rim eats into the usable space. If you are between two sizes here, take the larger one.

No fine print surprises. Here is exactly what you get with every order.

Large sizes only

A rim the whole way round, for a dog that sleeps head-up

Some dogs want a pillow. The Hollow gives them one on every edge, on a base that stays level under a shoulder instead of collapsing.

The rim

A headrest wherever they land

The bolster runs the full way round rather than stopping at three sides. A dog that sleeps with its chin up gets something to rest on regardless of which way it settles — without the closed-in feeling of a donut bed.

The base

Level under weight

The flat foam base underneath the rim is what stops a big dog's shoulder and hip sinking through to the floor. On a bed filled with loose polyester the heaviest points bottom out first, which is exactly where a large dog needs support most.

The scale

Built large, not scaled up

This shape starts at 83 cm and runs to 135 cm. The two biggest sizes exceed the parcel-post ceiling and travel as freight — we say so on the shipping policy rather than surprising you at the door.

Who this one suits, and who it doesn't

We would rather talk you out of the wrong bed than sell it to you. Both lists below are honest.

Take this one if

  • Large and giant breeds
  • Dogs that sleep with their head raised on something
  • Dogs that change position through the night and want an edge on any side

Look elsewhere if

  • Small dogs — this shape does not come below 83 cm
  • Dogs that sprawl to their full length. The rim eats the space they would use
  • Anyone who needs it in a hurry: the 2XL and 3XL ship as freight, not parcel post

Not sure which way you fall? Send us your dog's measurement and we will tell you which bed takes it — including when the answer is none of them.

How this bed compares

Every line below is something we do or don't do. None of it is a claim about what a bed does to your dog.

  • Foam base that returns to shape

  • Dog bed covers come off completely

Our method

The size on the box is not the space your dog gets.

External footprint
Usable sleeping area
Entry height

A listing that gives the outside of the bed is giving you a number that includes the bolster, which your dog cannot lie on.

We publish the external footprint in centimetres and tell you where the rim eats into it. We are measuring the internal area and will publish it as it is confirmed.

Plain language

“Orthopaedic” is not a regulated word.

Supportive foam baseHolds its shape under weight. Returns when your dog gets up.
Loose polyester fillMigrates to the edges within weeks, leaving a hollow where the weight goes.

Anyone can print the word on a bag of polyester fill.

We publish what each bed is made of rather than just the word. We don’t claim a bed treats anything — that’s a question for your vet.

What we don’t know yet

Density is the number that predicts flattening.

Foam densityNot yet published

We are collecting verified figures with test reports from our manufacturers.

Until a figure is evidenced we will not print it. An unsupported number is worth less than an honest gap.

About this bed

Questions we get about the Hollow

Specific to this one, not the range. If yours is not here, ask.

If it is not right, send it back

Thirty days from delivery to change your mind, on an unused bed in its packaging — you cover the return freight, which on a bed this bulky is usually $25 to $60.

If it turns up faulty, damaged or not what you ordered, that is different: we cover everything, freight included. Your consumer guarantees under Australian law apply whatever this or any other page says.

I am between two sizes. Which way?

Up. Sizing matters more on a bolster bed than any other shape here, because the rim takes room off every edge — so the usable surface is well short of the external number. Between two sizes on this bed, take the larger.

Why do the biggest sizes ship differently?

The 2XL and 3XL are past the 22 kg cubic-weight ceiling for standard parcel post even compressed, so they go as freight. That is slower, and the carrier may need someone there to receive it rather than leaving it at the door.

Is the rim firm or soft?

It is a bolster rather than a rigid wall — it gives when a dog leans into it. If you want high, structured sides that a dog can properly wedge against, The Burrow is the shape you want.

Will it fit a Great Dane?

Measure first. Nose to the base of the tail, lying stretched on their side, plus 30 cm for a sprawler. Giant breeds routinely need the 135 cm and occasionally more than this shape offers — send us the measurement and we will tell you honestly if nothing here takes it.
