A deep sofa bed with high sides on three edges and a plush surface, on an orthopaedic foam base. The cover is removable.

The high sides are the point. Dogs that are anxious, noise-sensitive, or simply happier in a confined space settle better with something to press against on more than one side. The trade-off is usable room — deep sides take up more of the footprint than a low bolster does.

Sizes

Medium — 80 × 60 × 18cm
Large — 100 × 75 × 19cm
XL — 120 × 90 × 20cm
XXL — 135 × 100 × 24cm

External dimensions. On this shape especially, the flat area inside the sides is meaningfully smaller than the outside measurement.

Before you order

Measure your dog lying stretched on their side, nose to the base of the tail, then add 15cm if they curl and 30cm if they sprawl.

Most dogs on a calming bed will curl — but they change position through the night, and a bed sized to a curled dog is one they hang off at three in the morning.

High sides, three edges

For the dog that wants to be surrounded

Deep sides on three edges, on an orthopaedic foam base. The trade-off is honest: sides that deep take up real room.

The sides

Something to press against on more than one edge

Dogs that are noise-sensitive or anxious often seek out confined spaces with more than one side against something. High sides on three edges give that shape; a low bolster does not.

The base

Calming shape, supportive base

An enclosed shape does not have to mean a filled shell with nothing underneath. This one sits on an orthopaedic foam base, so a dog gets the enclosure without giving up the support — which matters for a heavy dog that would otherwise bottom out through a plush shell.

The trade-off

Deep sides cost you floor

We would rather say this plainly. On this shape the flat area inside the sides is meaningfully smaller than the external footprint — more so than on any other bed we sell. Size up accordingly.

Who this one suits, and who it doesn't

We would rather talk you out of the wrong bed than sell it to you. Both lists below are honest.

Take this one if

  • Anxious or noise-sensitive dogs
  • Dogs that seek out corners, crates and under-furniture spaces
  • Heavy dogs that want enclosure without losing base support

Look elsewhere if

  • Dogs that sprawl. They will hang off it at three in the morning
  • Dogs that overheat easily — deep plush sides trap warmth
  • Anyone tight on floor space. The XXL is 135 cm before you count the room to get past it

Not sure which way you fall? Send us your dog's measurement and we will tell you which bed takes it — including when the answer is none of them.

How this bed compares

Every line below is something we do or don't do. None of it is a claim about what a bed does to your dog.

  • Foam base that returns to shape

A typical basic dog bed

A typical foam bed

Our method

The size on the box is not the space your dog gets.

External footprint
Usable sleeping area
Entry height

A listing that gives the outside of the bed is giving you a number that includes the bolster, which your dog cannot lie on.

We publish the external footprint in centimetres and tell you where the rim eats into it. We are measuring the internal area and will publish it as it is confirmed.

Plain language

“Orthopaedic” is not a regulated word.

Supportive foam baseHolds its shape under weight. Returns when your dog gets up.
Loose polyester fillMigrates to the edges within weeks, leaving a hollow where the weight goes.

Anyone can print the word on a bag of polyester fill.

We publish what each bed is made of rather than just the word. We don’t claim a bed treats anything — that’s a question for your vet.

What we don’t know yet

Density is the number that predicts flattening.

Foam densityNot yet published

We are collecting verified figures with test reports from our manufacturers.

Until a figure is evidenced we will not print it. An unsupported number is worth less than an honest gap.

About this bed

Questions we get about the Burrow

Specific to this one, not the range. If yours is not here, ask.

If it is not right, send it back

Thirty days from delivery to change your mind, on an unused bed in its packaging — you cover the return freight, which on a bed this bulky is usually $25 to $60.

If it turns up faulty, damaged or not what you ordered, that is different: we cover everything, freight included. Your consumer guarantees under Australian law apply whatever this or any other page says.

Will this calm an anxious dog?

It gives an anxious dog a shape they tend to prefer — enclosed, with more than one side to press against. That is a description of the bed, not a treatment claim. We do not say a bed fixes anxiety, because we cannot show that it does.

My dog curls up. Can I size down?

We would not. Dogs change position through the night, and a bed sized to a curled dog is the one they are hanging off at 3am. Size to the stretched measurement even for a curler.

How much smaller is the inside?

Meaningfully. A rim takes ten to twenty centimetres off each edge and these are the deepest sides in our range, so treat the external number as the floor space it occupies, not the space your dog gets.

Is it too warm for summer?

Possibly, for a thick-coated dog. Deep plush sides trap heat by design. If your dog stretches out on tiles in January, this is the wrong bed for that half of the year.
